The Council of the European Union has decided to allocate €10 million to support the armed forces of Armenia. This will be the first time the European Union provides assistance to Armenia from the European Peace Fund.

The aid aims to strengthen the logistical capabilities of the Armenian Armed Forces and improve civilian protection during crises and emergencies, according to a statement from the Council. It also seeks to enhance Armenia's resilience and accelerate the interoperability of its armed forces for potential future participation in international, including EU, military missions and operations.
“Security is an increasingly important element of our bilateral relations with Armenia. This European Peace Facility measure will further contribute to the resilience of the country. We have a mutual interest to further scale up our dialogue on foreign and security policy, also looking into Armenia’s future participation in EU-led missions and operations,” said Joseph Borrell, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
The Council of the European Union explains that this support will be implemented within the framework of the European Union's partnership with Armenia, which is based on shared values and aims to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in Armenia and the South Caucasus.
The European Peace Fund, created three years ago, also assisted the Georgian Defense Forces. However, after the Georgian Dream passed the Russian law, the European Union suspended the allocation of €30 million. As Ambassador Pawel Herczynski stated, "in case of further deterioration of the situation, other measures will be considered."
Support from the European Peace Fund to Georgia was increasing: €12.75 million was approved in December 2021, €20 million in 2022, and €30 million in 2023 to strengthen the defense forces. Last year, non-lethal equipment, supplies, services, and technical training, as needed, were financed for the units of the Georgian Defense Forces.
