“The candidate status granted to Georgia by the European Council will strengthen the prosperity aspirations and spirit in this direction in the country.
We will walk hand in hand in the direction of NATO. It is important to note that Georgia should implement and continue local reforms in the direction of the rule of law, including free and open parliamentary elections,” noted Jens Stoltenberg at the briefing.
As the Secretary General said, NATO stands by Georgia's path toward a stronger democracy and full Euro-Atlantic integration. This support is confirmed by the decision made in Bucharest, which states that Georgia will become a member of the alliance, he noted.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg visited Tbilisi on February 18, where he met with President Salome Zourabichvili and Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze. As part of a three-day tour of the South Caucasus, Jens Stoltenberg left for Yerevan, where he will meet the President of Armenia, Vahagn Khachaturyan, and the Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan. On Sunday and Monday, Stoltenberg met with President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, as well as with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense in Baku.
