The statement published by the commission on the social network X asserts that the US State Department should halt the mentioned call centers, that "sponsor Georgian Dream’s antidemocratic campaign against the Georgian people."
The use of "dark money" by Georgian Dream was also mentioned in a letter from American congressman Joe Wilson, Steve Cohen, Richard Hudson, and Mark Weiss, members of the Helsinki Commission. In the letter, they addressed US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on July 31, requesting the imposition of sanctions on Bidzina Ivanishvili and her close circle.
The congressmen believe it is imperative that the State Department, in cooperation with US and allied foreign law enforcement agencies, take swift, immediate, and systematic action against international call center networks to disrupt their operations.
The Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, also known as the US Helsinki Commission, is an independent commission of the United States federal government. Established in 1976, the Helsinki Commission includes representatives from the Senate, House of Representatives, and the Departments of State, Defense, and Commerce.
