The Kremlin propagandist and head of the Russian government TV channel RT, Margarita Simonyan, endorsed the statement made by Bidzina Ivanishvili, leader of the ruling Georgian Dream party. Ivanishvili claimed that after the elections on October 26, the government would apologize for "setting fire to the Ossetians" caused by the National Movement in 2008.

"Georgia behaves incredibly adequately. It’s as if the country has emerged from years of alcoholism or psychosis. In short, we warmly welcome you!" wrote Simonyan.
Speaking at a pre-election meeting with voters in Gori on September 14, Ivanishvili stated, "Immediately after the October 26 elections, when the instigators of the war are tried, we will definitely find the strength within ourselves to apologize for the fact that the traitorous National Movement burned our Ossetian sisters and brothers in 2008."
The Unity - National Movement coalition responded to Ivanishvili's statement:
"With this statement, Georgian Dream is serving only the interests of Russia, undermining the policy of non-recognition of occupied territories, and harming the national interest of Georgia.
He and Georgian Dream should apologize to the Georgian people for this treacherous statement. Over the past 12 years, people have become impoverished, the country has been drained, the birth rate is at a historical low, and Georgia has been internationally isolated. The truth of the Georgian people is affirmed by the decisions of the international courts in The Hague and Strasbourg, as well as by the resolutions of the OSCE and the Council of Europe. On October 26, the Georgian people will defeat the Georgian Dream, and through unity and integration into the European Union, will pursue a peaceful policy to protect our national interests. Georgia will definitely be united and peaceful within its internationally recognized borders," stated the coalition.
