The Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, Nikolai Patrushev, has accused the United States of initiating the 2008 Russia-Georgia war. In an interview with the propaganda media, he stated that "it was the Americans who organized Saakashvili's military adventure in August 2008."

"Lies and provocations are common companions of the policies of Washington and other Western countries.
It was the Americans who organized Saakashvili's military adventure in August 2008, although they claimed they had nothing to do with it. The direct intervention of the USA in Georgia's affairs led to the secession of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
I believe the Georgian people know they are paying the price for the Americans' actions with their own suffering," Patrushev said in an interview with Izvestia.
On August 13, "Georgian Dream" issued another statement regarding the August war, asserting that "Saakashvili's reckless actions in August 2008 were the result of a well-planned betrayal ordered from outside." After the October 26 parliamentary elections, Georgia's ruling party will announce a public legal process, in which it will be the plaintiff and the National Movement will have to "collectively answer for the treacherous crime committed against the country and its people."
