Judge Irakli Khuskivadze of the Tbilisi City Court sentenced a 27-year-old man to prison as a preventive measure. The man was arrested by the State Security Service on charges of making a false notification about terrorism.

Based on the case materials, the investigation conducted by the Counter-Terrorist Center established that on May 6, 2024, the accused made a false notification about the presence of an explosive device in one of Batumi's large shopping centers, Grand Mall. As a result of the inspection, no explosive device or substance was found in the shopping center.

"In the case, witness statements are presented, and the audio recording of the false message is requested. Based on the expert report, it was confirmed that the voice belongs to the accused. The call was made from the city of Batumi. Regarding the motive, an investigation is underway, and more details will be determined," said the prosecutor, Elizbar Gozalishvili.

The defense demanded a bail of 5000 GEL for the accused and his release. As the lawyer Gigi Svanidze says, the man has health problems.

The case is being investigated under Article 331 of the Criminal Code, which refers to false reporting of terrorism and is punishable by 3 to 6 years of imprisonment.

The State Security Service (SUS) also arrested one person in February on the charge of false notification about the presence of an explosive device. According to the investigation, on February 14, a 28-year-old man called the hotline of the airline company Wizz Air using the phone of an underage relative and reported that there were explosive devices on the Kutaisi-Barcelona flight. Due to this, the plane, with 148 passengers and 6 crew members, turned back and made an emergency landing at the airport.
