The governor denies that he made the decision to resign because of the change of the prime minister.
"I'm tired. I have been a civil servant for 26 years and I want to move to the private sector and continue working there for myself. It was my initiative. Perhaps they will select someone worthy and appoint him," said Mikheil Shakulashvili in an interview with Mtavari Arkhi and noted that he will write his resignation letter in the near future.
Mikheil Shakulashvili was appointed as a state trustee in the municipalities of Gori, Kaspi, Kareli, and Khashuri in August 2022 by the then Prime Minister, Irakli Gharibashvili. Before that, he held high positions in the General Prosecutor's Office; from 2013 to 2018, he was the prosecutor of Tbilisi.
After Irakli Kobakhidze became the Prime Minister, Joni Barnabishvili, the head of the department of relations with the regions of the government administration, resigned. Later, he was appointed as the Deputy Minister of Finance.
On March 1, after a meeting with Irakli Kobakhidze, Zurab Azarashvili resigned from the position of Minister of IDPs, Labor, Health, and Social Protection from the occupied territories of Georgia.
