The de facto authorities of the Russian-occupied Tskhinvali region released 37-year-old Levan Petriashvili, a Rustavi resident, from prison after having him serve an illegal sentence. The de facto court sentenced him to 7 months in prison for illegally crossing the so-called border.

According to the State Security Service of Georgia, ‘‘the hotline mechanism was actively used in the efforts of freeing Levan Petriashvili from illegal imprisonment. The issue of his immediate release from unlawful detention was regularly raised by the central government of Georgia within the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) and Geneva International Discussions.’’
The de facto security committee of occupied Tskhinvali also released a statement on the release of Levan Petriashvili. According to the statement, in the spring of this year, 37-year-old Levan Petriashvili intentionally crossed the so-called state border while drunk. The de facto court sentenced him to 7 months in prison and he was released after serving the full sentence.
5 citizens of Georgia are currently illegally detained in Tskhinvali prison - Lasha Khetereli, Petre Kalashnikov, Giorgi Darchiashvili, Vasiko Kenkadze, and Giorgi Mosiashvili.
