"I will continue to serve my city and country in another capacity. I have been a member of the management team since its inception, having worked in public service for over 10 years in various leadership roles, which provided the best opportunity to make a difference for our city during these years.
Given the current political landscape, I will engage in party activities and continue my work in Tbilisi," Khakhaleishvili said.
As he said, "the country faces a very significant, historic choice," and he intends to contribute to the country in another capacity.
Ioseb Khakhaleishvili was elected as the mayor of Kutaisi in the local self-government elections on October 30, 2021, with his term expiring in 2025. Before becoming mayor, Khakhaleishvili served as the deputy governor of Imereti.
Following Ioseb Khakhaleishvili's resignation, the duties of the mayor of Kutaisi will be assumed by the first deputy, Davit Eremeishvili, until the next elections scheduled for next year.
