Time of Georgian Dream is Over, I’m Not Going Anywhere – President’s Special Address

The Russian law of the Georgian Dream party threatens independent media and civil society organizations and hinders Georgia from joining the European Union.

Russian law establishes Putin's rules in Georgia, which has eliminated free speech in Russia.

When you are oppressed, there will be no one to cover your problem and stand by you.

Georgian News will resist the Russian intention of the Georgian Dream to the end!

‘’Today they killed the European future and democracy with one stone, or rather tried to. A country where there’s no balance between different branches cannot be considered democratic. This is what Georgian Dream wants, but Georgian Dreams dreams are over, and I am not going anywhere. Then they can wonder which version of Salome Zourabichvili they preferred. That doesn’t concern me. What I am concerned with is where I would be of more use to this country - either as an independent politician or as a president, who will continue her mandate. The near future will reveal where the chips will fall,’’ stated the President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili. The President addressed the public after the Constitutional Court found her in violation of the Constitution based on the complaint by Georgian Dream MPs.

According to Salome Zourabichvili, those judges of the Constitutional Court who signed this ruling should be ashamed. The President avowed that she is not going to resign.

‘’To be honest, it broke my heart a little, but nothing surprises me in this country anymore, and I was not really surprised by today’s decision. However, I was really disappointed in the Constitutional Court, which remained one of the only places in our legal system deserving some trust. From today, this is no longer the case, the Constitutional Court should be ashamed of the decision it made. Every judge who signed the ruling must be ashamed. The three people somewhat saved their reputation, more than the institution’s.

This deals a great blow to the country, at a time when virtually all independent institutions have been distorted, and no independent institution is left in the country, except for one – the president.

I want to reassure you and tell you, the people, everyone who is listening to me today, that I am not going anywhere, I’m not stepping down. I will stand where I always stood, what I came here for – for our European and democratic future,’’ said Zourabichvili.

According to the president, she will attend the discussion of her impeachment in the parliament. Zourabichvili called on the opposition to stand outside against ‘’the anti-European impeachment.’’

‘’I will go to the Parliament, and I don’t need anyone’s support to stand alongside those little men. This is up to them, I can’t dictate anything to anyone, but I want to advise the opposition that if they want to present a strong image, stand outside and stand against this anti-European impeachment. I will make an address if they give me the floor. Even if not, I will still say everything that needs to be said.

I want to thank you for the support that I feel within the country. Let's fight together until the end,’’ said Salome Zourabichvili.

On October 16, the Constitutional Court published its decision, which established that the President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, violated the Constitution by holding meetings with the leaders of the EU countries without the government's consent. Judges Merab Turava, Eva Gotsiridze, Giorgi Tevdorashvili, Khvicha Kikilashvili, Manana Kobakhidze, and Vasil Roinishvili supported the decision, while Irine Imerlishvili, Giorgi Kverenchkhiladze, and Teimuraz Tughushi dissented.

According to the chairman of the Georgian Dream party, Irakli Kobakhidze, the vote on the issue of impeachment of the president will be held in the parliament this week.

100 MP’s votes are needed to unseat the President, which the Georgian Dream comes short of. Part of the parliamentary opposition opposes the impeachment of the president and considers it a sabotage and an artificial obstacle to the country’s European integration.
