Daughter of Adjara Government’s Official Arrested on Drug Charges

The 20-year-old daughter of Tamar Gudava, the head of the Culture Department of the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Sports of Adjara, was arrested on the charge of attempting to smuggle a particularly large amount of narcotics into a group. The court has already sentenced the accused to prison as a preventive measure.

The information about the arrest of the high-ranking official's daughter was initially spread by the TV company Mtavari Arkhi. After that, Tamar Gudava also published a statement on her personal Facebook page.

"I'm also figuring out the situation right now. I want you to know that if the information about any kind of guilt of my eldest daughter is confirmed, she will definitely be held accountable before the law," writes Tamar Gudava, noting that she resigned from her position "to avoid any kind of embarrassment."

According to the Deputy District Prosecutor of West Georgia, Emzar Gagnidze, on March 1, two individuals brought a large amount of the narcotic drug methadone (base) packed in polyethylene bags to one of the villages of Samtredia Municipality and took it to the so-called riverbank, placing it in "locations."

"They took a photo of each location with the mobile phone's camera, specifying the location coordinates, to send them to the people who bought narcotics. According to the information obtained by the investigation, after this, both persons consumed narcotic drugs, after which one of them probably died of a drug overdose. On March 3, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs removed a particularly large amount of 3.35 grams of narcotics, which were packed and placed by the defendants in 24 pieces, from the so-called locations," Emzar Gagnidze said.

The prosecutor in the case explains that a medical examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death of the deceased.

According to information from Mtavari Arkhi, a young man living in one of the villages of Terjola municipality has died. He went home at night, fell asleep, and in the morning his family members found him dead.

The investigation of the case is being conducted regarding an attempt to conceal a large amount of narcotics within a group. If found guilty, the detainee faces 14 to 20 years or life imprisonment.
