"We noted the statements by the Foreign Ministers of Georgia and the Republic of Armenia, Ilia Darchiashvili and Ararat Mirzoyan, regarding their support and respect for each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty. In this regard, we find it necessary to state that the Republic of Abkhazia is an independent state, whose sovereign status is provided for by the 1994 Constitution of the Republic of Abkhazia and confirmed by the Act on State Independence of the Republic of Abkhazia, adopted as a result of a popular referendum in 1999.
We call on the Armenian side not to use stereotyped phrases about the mythical territorial integrity of Georgia, which contradict objective reality," says the de facto government.
The so-called Ministry of Foreign Affairs also responded to the fact that, for the first time this year, Armenia supported a resolution in the UN General Assembly condemning the demographic changes carried out by force in the regions of Georgia occupied by Russia. The resolution affirms the right of the displaced, regardless of their ethnicity, to return to their homes and emphasizes the need to protect property rights. According to the de facto authorities, this "serious change" in Armenia's position is worrying.
"It is worrying that representatives of Armenia supported this resolution for the first time, despite the fact that the Armenian diaspora in Abkhazia plays an important role in the process of establishing and strengthening the independence of our republic.
We express our hope that in the near future, the Armenian leadership will draw the right conclusions from the current situation and amend its position on this issue," states the de facto Ministry of Foreign Affairs of occupied Abkhazia. It also appeals to the Georgian authorities to adapt to the current political reality.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, paid an official visit to Georgia on July 3. At the press conference held after his meeting with his Georgian counterpart, Ilia Darchiashvili, Mirzoyan stated that Armenia and Georgia have confirmed at the highest level that they support and respect each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
