Georgian Parliament Opposition member, Aleksandre Elisashvili, who was physically assaulted by the police during a protest against the Russian law, visited the special investigative service with his lawyer. The MP is demanding an investigation into the case of beating and illegal detention, but he is currently awaiting a formal process.

"The absolute formality awaits us, as if they are doing something, as if they have a reaction and want to arrest someone. Their investigation is pointless, but I respect the state and will maintain this formality. If they want to investigate something, the footage was taken, where everything is in the palm of your hand, and the faces are visible," said the leader of the Citizens party to the journalists, speaking in detail about the incident.

"It was a punitive operation. When the coward and weakling Mdinaradze did not dare to answer me, he sent policemen like Jackals to me.

I'm sorry, but those who hit me are not policemen. In Soviet times, the policemen were called dogs, they are their mental descendants and perpetuators of the idea. I respect law-abiding cops, but what law were they following? If the Special Investigative Service were to approach them diligently, they would face 18 years in prison because this is a group crime, organized violence, abuse of authority, retaliation against a high official. But you will see, they will be released from all of this.

When they arrested me, I told them that they had no right to arrest me because I am protected by the deputy immunity. They told me it was a diversion. Diversion is getting away from the scene of the crime, and I was detained for a few hours. Apart from that, they have drawn up an arrest protocol.

No one can say that I abused the policeman - physically or verbally. As for the fact that I said, "Push me, push me," as a member of parliament, I have the right to enter any public administrative building unhindered. Yes, I wanted to see Kobakhidze and talk to him. I had the right to do that, and the policemen should not have blocked the way for me.”

Aleksandre Elisashvili noted that the director of the patrol police, Vazha Siradze, ordered the policemen to "drag" him, and then did nothing to stop the violence.

"Vazha Siradze was very aggressive towards me, and it is a fact that he was the leader. He didn't hit me directly, but he also used insulting words and was very aggressive. “Drag” was heard from him for the first time, and before he was finished, I disappeared at the feet of the policemen. Is he not the head of the patrol? Did he see the violence and brutality that was happening?" says Aleksandre Elisashvili.

On April 17, the MP was beaten at a rally in front of the Government Chancellery after he tried to break through the police cordon and enter the building. In the footage broadcast by TV Pirveli, it can be seen that dozens of policemen are beating Elisashvili, who is lying on the ground, with their hands and kicks. After standing up, they handcuff him, shake his head, then lift him up and drag him against his will to the entrance of the government administration, whereupon he is impaled on a flagpole. The head of the special service of state protection, Anzor Chubinidze, was also watching the developments at the chancellery.

The Internal Affairs Minister, Vakhtang Gomelauri, expressed his regret over the incident, stating that an investigation has been initiated to uncover the truth behind the events. "I am very sorry for what happened; it should not have occurred. The investigation will provide answers to why and how it happened," Gomelauri said during his speech in parliament.

On April 15, during the committee discussion of the Russian law, Aleksandre Elisashvili punched Mamuka Mdinaradze, a deputy of the ruling Georgian Dream and one of the initiators of the law. They threatened him with a "sufficient answer."
