Today, October 7, a meeting is scheduled with the leaders of several parties, including the Gakharia for Georgia party. On October 8, meetings will be held with Strong Georgia and Unity - National Movement.
Two days ago, in an interview with the TV Pirveli station, Salome Zourabichvili stated that she has selected a candidate for the position of Prime Minister and is discussing this issue with opposition parties. When asked on what basis she selected the candidate for the prime ministership, the president responded that he has no political background, is professional, trustworthy, and "I guess he is acceptable to everyone."
"I am sure of one thing: we have to announce the government today. The voters should know in advance who they will be, and they should be high-level professionals, equipped with credibility and non-politicians. Why? Because this is the first step toward depolarization if the government consists of different political forces. We see, even in these consolidated 4 parties, how many internal grievances, different opinions, and worldviews exist at this stage when we have one goal: to do everything that will lead us to the place where we want to be by June next year."
"I have to start meetings with the parties on Monday. Today I announce that I am waiting for them on Monday to begin negotiations and consultations regarding specific candidacies. We have very little time before the elections. I don't know everyone - who should be which minister; everyone will have the opportunity to present their candidacies, but the only ones - at this stage - should not be politicians," said Zourabichvili.
Almost all opposition parties signed the Georgian Charter, drawn up at the initiative of Salome Zourabichvili, which envisions the creation of a temporary, so-called technical government after the parliamentary elections, based on the president's recommendation.
The signatories undertake to abolish all laws that contradict the European path and European recommendations, including Russian Law. Additionally, politically motivated cases against demonstrators participating in the 2024 protests will be canceled, and amnesty will be granted. They also promise to rid the justice system of clan rule and to carry out fundamental reform of the Supreme Council of Justice. The reforms will affect the Prosecutor's Office, the State Security Service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Special Investigation Service, the Anti-Corruption Agency, the National Bank, regulatory bodies, and the election system.
The interim government will be responsible for implementing this action plan, after which "early parliamentary elections will be held under free and fair conditions."
