"On June 9, Mako and I thanked the audience, said goodbye until the next season and promised to return with more news and interesting updates. Unfortunately, neither Mako nor I will be able to fulfil these promises on the air of the first channel.
Yesterday, our acoustic journey came to an absolutely unexpected end for us. This is how it was decided - from the new season, the program will have new presenters," Mebo Nutsubidze wrote on Facebook.
The management of Public Broadcaster has not explained the reason for this decision.
Mebo Nutsubidze actively spoke out against the Russian Law on so-called Foreign Agents and did not shy away from criticizing the government. "You see, you human beings, these people don't want your law. You can call it Russian, French, or German. What is the essential meaning of the name? If I call the water in the pit in front of my house an ocean, will ships appear in it over time? That law is not right, and time will not change anything. People don't want it, and it's over," Mebo Nutsubidze wrote on April 8, after the Georgian Dream re-initiated the Russian Law.
At the end of 2023, the public broadcaster fired presenter Davit Gorgiladze and closed his program, The Unbearable Lightness of Gorgiladze, which was one of the highest-rated. Davit Gorgiladze also publicly expressed his position regarding the Russian law, which the ruling party unsuccessfully tried to pass in March of last year. The public broadcaster explained the decision by changing the funding model and stated that they considered the politicization of the issue "categorically unacceptable."
