Ahead of the parliamentary elections, the government will submit a legislative initiative to the parliament to write off fines imposed for violating existing regulations during the Covid pandemic. 1855 individuals and 38 legal entities will be exempted from fines, totalling 5 596 000 GEL.

"After the pandemic period has passed and these rules have practically lost their meaning and function, it is relevant to consider such a benefit from the state. I think this is justified in every way," said the Minister of Health, Labour and Social Affairs, Mikheil Sarjveladze, after the government session.

The government is demanding that the draft law be considered in an accelerated manner.

On May 29, the Parliament approved changes to the Tax Code, resulting in the writing off of tax debts and taxes accrued by individuals until January 1, 2021. The change will affect 145 842 taxpayers, with the total amount written off approximately totalling 591 458 571 GEL.

During the 2018 presidential elections, the Georgian Dream government applied for debt relief. Before the second round, 600,000 citizens with financial obligations to banks, online credit organizations, or various financial institutions were promised to be removed from the so-called blacklist and have their debts cancelled.

The parliamentary elections in Georgia will be held on October 26, 2024.
